From the Manufacturer:
The Ultimate EOS Flagship Camera
The EOS-1D X represents the flagship of the EOS line, with a restyled, ergonomic body and a full frame 18.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor combined with Dual DIGIC 5+ Image Processors. The sensor and processor technology and wide ISO range deliver sharp, low-noise images in all types of light conditions.
The Dual Card Slots support Type I and Type II CompactFlash cards, compatible with UDMA mode 7 with a maximum data transfer rate of 167 MB/s. Multiple settings allow for continuous overflow shooting once one card is full, mirroring the same image at a different file size or to duplicate the same image and settings on to separate cards.
Wired image transfer is available through the built-in Gigabit Ethernet terminal (1000BASE-TX).
Intelligent Viewfinder with Superimposed LCD
The Intelligent Viewfinder offers a near 100% field of view, and is designed with aspherical lens elements for less distortion and color aberrations than previous models.
The transparent LCD superimposes a customizable combination of focus points and gridlines directly over the image. The AF status indicator can even be directed to display within or outside of the viewfinders image area. All information can be displayed or turned off at the touch of a button.
3.2" TFT LCD Monitor with Clear View II Technology
The 3.2" TFT LCD monitor has 1,040,000 dots, anti-reflective construction and features Canon's Clear View II technology for bright, sharp display in virtually any light.
Beyond reviewing settings and images, the monitor is ideal for Live View mode.
View and compose images using grid lines that can be displayed in 9 sections, 24 sections, or 9 sections with diagonals. Display the dual-axis electronic level to ensure accurate placement by displaying both roll and pitch in 1-degree increments. For image review, the dedicated Magnify/Reduce button allows viewing images in groups, or to review individual images by zooming in and out up to 10x.
18.1 Megapixel Full Frame CMOS Sensor
The 18.1 Megapixel full frame CMOS sensor has been designed from the ground up to deliver high resolution, perfectly detailed images with unprecedented speed and clarity. Capture images at speeds of up to 12 fps in RAW + JPEG, up to 14 fps in Super High Speed Mode.
The improved signal-to-noise ratio of the CMOS sensor and powerful noise reduction allows the EOS-1D X to capture at expanded sensitivities down to ISO 50 (L) and up to 102400 (H1), with an extended range up to 204800 (H2). The EOS-1D X has automatic ISO settings within the dedicated ISO menu, with the ability to specify minimum and maximum ISO settings. User defined ranges can also be set, along with full auto and manual settings.
Dual DIGIC 5+ Image Processors for Speed and Performance
The EOS-1D X features Dual DIGIC 5+ Image Processors that include a total of four 4-channel A/D converter front-end processing circuits. The result is approximately 17x faster speed in processing and performance than the DIGIC 4.
Also featured is real-time compensation for Chromatic Aberration, plus algorithms that promote greater noise reduction at higher ISO settings. These features work on both still and motion images. The power of the dual processors deliver improved camera performance speed as well as images with stunning results.
Sophisticated 61-Point High Density Reticular AF
The EOS-1D X features a 61-Point High Density Reticular AF for greater accuracy, ideal for any situation. The multi-zoned wide-area AF provides better tracking, and has a number of horizontal and vertical cross-type points, as well as sensitivity in extremely low-light situations (EV-2 for a central point with a f/2.8 lens).
The AF features on the EOS-1D X are controlled through a dedicated AF menu tab, without having to navigate through custom function menus. Choose from six AF point selection methods (Spot, Single Point, Single + Adjacent 4 Points, Single + Adjacent 8 Points, Zone Selection, and Automatic AF Point Selection), plus a dedicated AF configuration tool for control of AI Servo AF III tracking parameters (tracking sensitivity, acceleration/deceleration tracking, and AF point auto switching).
The EOS-1D X features a 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor to aid the AF system in Automatic Point Selection. Previously unpredictable subjects such as fast-moving or flying subjects can be tracked utilizing the EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF, which recognizes the subject based on face and color detection from the AE system.
EOS iSA Powered by the DIGIC 4 Image Processor
The EOS-1D X features a 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor with a dedicated DIGIC 4 Image Processor that delivers improved performance in evaluative ambient and flash metering.
The sensor has 252 distinct zones for general metering, with 35 zones used for low-light metering. The meter's DIGIC 4 Image Processor uses the EOS iSA (Intelligent Subject Analysis System) to incorporate face and color recognition data, resulting in more stable performance under rapidly changing lighting situations. The E-TTL Flash metering ensures accurate automatic exposure for virtually any situation, with an overall level of performance that will impress even the seasoned pro.
EOS HD Video Recording
In response to the growing demands of professional image makers, the EOS-1D X captures HD video with an unprecedented level of sophistication for a digital SLR.
It offers both All-I and IPB compression, supports H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile, and automatically splits files greater than 4GB (FAT specifications) for extended, interrupted recording up to 29:59 minutes.
The CMOS sensor's drive system significantly increases image processor performance, reducing color artifacts and moiré. Options include timecoding only during recording (Rec Run) or at all times (Free Run), which is ideal for multi-camera shoots. The EOS-1D X offers easy operation with the new Live View shooting/Movie shooting button, with menu options that can be set even when the Live View image is displayed.
The dedicated menu tab for video capture allows on the fly changes, plus improved sound recording adjustments with 64-step volume control and access to the sound recording level meter through the Quick Control screen during video capture. The Silent Control function offers quiet adjustments through a touch pad located on the inner portion of the Quick Control Dial. The built-in wind filter helps suppress unwanted wind noise that can distort or muffle sound.
Durable Magnesium Alloy Body and Redesigned Shutter
Built for professionals who demand nothing less than the best, the EOS-1D X is designed to perform even in the most challenging environments. The body is constructed of rigid, high-strength magnesium alloy for rugged performance and features an improved grip design for easier finger placement and reduced hand fatigue.
The redesigned shutter has lightweight and carbon-fiber blades, and is rated to maintain up to 14 fps performance without compromise for up to 400,000 cycles. The EOS-1D X and optional accessories like the new Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E6A and GPS Receiver GP-E1 (both sold separately) have extensive gasket placement for improved dust and water resistance, even at the connection points.
The EOS-1D X's integrated dust removal system clears the surface of the infrared absorbing/ultraviolet-blocking glass by vibrating it with ultrasound. In addition, Canon's Integrated Cleaning System clears dust missed by the camera. Specks can also be identified and removed using the Dust Delete Data feature of Canon's Digital Professional Pro software, bundled with the EOS-1D X standard accessories.
Features and Design Straight From Pro Shooters
The EOS-1D X was designed based on the user experience and feedback of professional photographers.
The refined and intuitive layout of all control buttons, dials and shooting settings allow changes to be made with just the right hand, with quick image check and image processing operations made with just the left. Additional Function buttons located on the front of the camera enable fast access to features the photographer uses frequently.
The improved Graphic User Interface and redesigned menu structure places frequently used functions upfront, instead of buried within the menu hierarchy.
