During Zacuto's prototype stages, they redesigned the outside of the z-finder V2 to help enhance the quality. The Schneider optics are still the same. The first design change is a shorter length; this allows for more people who have less than perfect eyesight in the diopter range. This shorter design also gives a better viewing angle and prevents clipping corners allowing your eye to have a complete field of view. Thirdly, we enclosed the focusing wheel to help keep dirt and debris out of the z-finder where we have greased parts. We removed the ¼ 20” screw since most people didn’t feel like they would want to use an articulating arm with it. Lastly, we feel the new design is more in line with look and feel of the DSLR cameras.
The Z-Finder is Zacuto’s Optical Viewfinder that allows DSLR cameras to have the correct form factor for video. It offers 3x focusable magnification, a 50mm diameter lens, an eyecup preventing extraneous light leakage, and a field of view perfectly matched to LCD screens. With Optics by Schneider, this 6 oz viewfinder is a filmmaker’s best tool for creating precision focus.
The Final Prototype of Z-finder Version 2 has two ways available to attach to your camera. A flat frame attaches around your camera LCD screen with a double sided adhesive that is so strong it is hard to get it off, the Z-finder snap fits on and off to the flat frame, it works beautifully. It also has rubber bands to hold the Z-finder in place if you prefer this option. These options can be used together or individually.
