This fast macro zoom lens is optimized for use with digital SLR cameras with APS-C sized sensors. A large aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification of 1:3 makes this lens ideal to use for low light conditions as well as close up photography. Special Low Dispersion (SLD) and Extraordinary Low Dispersion glass elements along with Sigma's super multi-layer lens coating provide excellent correction of color aberrations and reduce flare and ghosting ensuring high image quality.
The lens's compact and lightweight design incorporates both glass-mold and hybrid aspherical lens technology. Use of a Hypersonic Motor (HSM) enables autofocusing with all Nikon DSLR cameras including the D40/D40x. An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, allowing use of circular polarizing filters and a petal-type lens hood (included).
