The Zuiko Digital 50-200mm SWD Pro lens is a super-telephoto zoom lens that features the Supersonic Wave Drive (SWD) autofocusing system and covers a telephoto zoom range that's the equivalent of a 100-400mm (35 mm) film format lens. The Olympus SWD lens drive technology has made possible an ultra-fast, whisper-quiet and high-precision AF system. SWD maximizes the astonishing AF speed capability of the new E-3 camera body. The lens autofocuses faster than the previous model by two times.
ED lens elements are used extensively to correct the color blurring that can occur when telescopic lenses are extended to their maximum focal length, while the digital-dedicated design ensures high-definition performance with clear, crisp images from edge to edge. Multicoating has been improved from the previous model for even better flare resistance and improved picture contrast.
The lens also has a superb close-up shooting capability with an outstanding minimum shooting distance of just 3.9 feet throughout the zoom range. With a maximum shooting magnification of 0.21x (equivalent to 0.42x on a 35mm camera lens) this lens outperforms any other in its class. The powerful close-up shooting capability makes it easy to capture shots of small, easily disturbed small nature subjects from a comfortable distance.
