The H3D-II high-end DSLR camera is the 4th generation of the Hasselblad H-system, providing all the advantages of a truly integrated DSLR to the large sensor format, enabling all photographic parameters to be optimized and resulting in an unsurpassed level of image quality. The H3D-II provides improved controls and functionality, better sensor cooling, a more intuitive user interface, and a bright 3" display. When combined with the Hasselblad's Phocus image processing software the H3D-II will set a standard for digital photographic quality.
In digital photography, the advantages of large format cameras have become even more obvious. The 6 × 4.5 cm window allows the Hasselblad H3D-II to use an image sensor that is up to more than twice the size of a 35mm camera sensor. Consequently the sensor holds more and larger pixels, which deliver the highest possible image quality in terms of moiré-free color rendering without gradation break-ups in even the finest lit surfaces.
The H3D comes with a new HVD 90x viewfinder designed for full performance over the H3DII-39’s large 36 x 49mm sensor. Hasselblad has added an interchangeable waist-level viewfinder, the HVM (sold separately), for the entire range of H system cameras. The bright and large viewfinder image is ideal for creative composing and the photographer is able to shoot in the fashion that suits them most; maintaining eye contact with the model, or gaining impact by shooting from a point lower than eye-level, for example.
The Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS) enables you to produce outstanding and reliable out-of-the-box colors, with skin tones, specific product colors and other difficult tones reproduced easily and effectively. In order to incorporate Hasselblad’s new unique HNCS and DA C features they have developed a custom Hasselblad raw file format called 3F RAW (3FR). This file format includes lossless image compression, which reduces the required storage space by 33%. The 3FR files can be converted into Adobe’s raw image format DNG (‘Digital Negative’), bringing this new technology standard to the professional photographer for the first time. In order to utilize DA C and optimize the colors of the DNG file format, conversion from 3FR must take place through FlexColor.
The Hasselblad H3D-II offers a choice of storage devices: portable CF cards, the flexible ImageBank-II or a computer hard drive. With these three operating and storage options, you are able to select a mode to suit the nature of the work in hand, whether in the studio or on location.
The included Phocus Software by Hasselblad could very well be called Beauty and the Beast. Beast, for the power and performance of the Hasselblad Raw Converter (HRC) that forms the core of this amazing software, and Beauty for the attractive, new working environment it’s contained in. Phocus makes even the largest files in the world easy to handle on both Mac and Windows platforms and provides serious photographers with a well thought out, intuitive workflow, designed to work the way that photographers work.
To further increase usability, the H3D-II has been designed to allow the digital capture unit to be detached and used on a view camera by way of an adapter. When used in this manner, the unit is controlled by the flash sync signal from the view camera shutter.
