Intelligent Charge System
The automatic mode provides a slow initial charge when the pack is switched on, which helps maximize capacitor life. The QUADX features recycle times between 0.4 and 1.9 secs. The system constantly monitors the internal temperature of the capacitors. If they get too warm, the charge rate will automatically slow down. The cooling system of the QUADX is microprocessor-controlled with variable-speed fans that respond to the actual internal temperature, maintaining optimum operating temperature at all times.

QUADX Flash Heads
The QUADX provides power adjustments in accurate 1/10-stop steps, which is compatible with most of today's flash meters. It has a maximum power of 3000w/s and a minimum of 31w/s a range of nearly 7 stops. The overall power of the pack can be divided into two independent channels, one having a maximum power of 2000w/s, the other 1000w/s. Each channel controls two head outlets in 1/10-stop steps. Power levels are clearly visible in large LED displays. In addition to individual channel-level controls, there is an overall power control which will raise and lower the total output of the generator, also in 1/10-stop increments.
The QUADX uses precise capacitor switching that constantly monitors power levels and switching out unused capacitors. This design delivers much greater color consistency over the entire power range of the pack. It also helps the QUADX achieve a faster flash duration.
The backlit LCD screen on the pack's control panel is the heart of an information center that gives the photographer complete control and understanding of the QUADX's performance, displaying as much or as little information as the photographer chooses. The display shows the output of each head in joules or watt seconds and its predicted flash duration. It also indicates which of the many modeling lamp modes has been selected. Other menus include a resettable flash counter, a trigger delay for special effects, adjustable audible signals, display brightness and more.
At 100%, modeling lamps will be at full power regardless of flash power selected. In proportional mode, the lamps will directly correspond to the flash power selected. An Auto 100% mode sets the modeling lamp of the head with the highest flash power to 100% brightness, while subsequent heads are set in ratio to that head. In the fourth mode, the system automatically detects and displays the individual lamp brightness as a percentage of full lamp power. The photographer can then increase or decrease the lamp brightness until a comfortable working brightness is achieved, while lamps remain proportional to the power selected. To indicate recycling, the modeling lamps can be set to extinguish after the flash has fired. To prolong the life of the lamps, the QUADX features soft-start switching, which brings lamps up gradually rather than abruptly.
With this full-bracketing function, the photographer can set the bracketing interval from 1/10- to 9/10-stop. Once selections have been made, a display will indicate the bracketing sequence, showing what the actual bracketing power levels will be and the order of the sequence.
The QUADX was designed to provide you with a choice of recharging modes in order to handle a variety of shooting situations and to prolong the life of the capacitors. In slow mode, the pack will recycle slowly and minimize the current draw. This is perfect for location shoots where the quality of the line voltage supply is questionable.
The system's optional infrared remote-control system allows the photographer to control the pack from up to nearly 50' away.
The QUADX flash head is a fan-cooled unit featuring a single, clear flash tube mounted beneath a UV-balanced Pyrex dome. The tube will handle up to 3000w/s of power and has a three-electrode design that delivers the fastest possible flash duration. It will also handle modeling lamps up to 300w. QUADX versions of other popular Bowens flash heads such as the Ringflash and ProSpot will also become available. The QUADX flash head measures 7(w) x 14 1/4(d) x 14 1/2(h)" and weighs 25.5 lbs.
