With the groundbreaking HVR-V1U compact professional camcorder, in addition to standard 60i you can shoot progressive scan footage and still edit using regular Sony HDV equipment.

In collaboration with prominent movie and drama creators, Sony has carefully analyzed current and future needs for digital cinema productions. This has given birth to the innovative HVR-V1U, a result of this analysis combined with more than a decade of Sony expertise in developing high-end digital cinema gear. In addition to typical 60i, the HVR-V1U offers 24p/30p progressive scan capture, enabling cinema and drama productions in its compact yet high performance unit. The camcorder also adopts the world's first 2-3 pull-down HDV recording system for storage of the 24p scanned images, keeping your existing HDV1080/60i HDV gear in action. Playback your 24p/30p scan footage using Sony HDV equipment you already have at hand, or feed it to a compatible Non-Linear Editing (NLE) system without changing your HDV deck or monitors - it’s as simple as that.

The HVR-V1U is equipped with a high quality Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 20x zoom lens. It comes in a rugged, ergonomic body with a 3.5", 16:9 wide LCD screen. Full control of zoom, focus and iris is achievable through independent controls designed for durability and precision use.
