This 16.2-megapixel DSLR camera offers many improvements over its D90 predecessor making it a hugely popular DX-format (APS-C) camera. For starters, its EXPEED 2 image-processing engine and 14-bit A/D conversion provides smooth tones, rich colors and fast camera performance. Its 39-point AF system with 3D tracking and 2016-pixel RGB 3D Matrix Metering System deliver amazing image quality in a variety of shooting conditions. The D7000 also features exceptional low-light capabilities with an ISO range of 100-6400 (plus H1 and H2 equivalent to ISO 12,800/25,600). It also provides full 1080p HD video recording at 24fps with full-time AF. There is even a mic jack for use with an external microphone.

While the D7000 is a mid-range DSLR camera designed for advanced-amateur photographers, it does have a serious feel to it and great durability, thanks to its magnesium-alloy body shell and slightly thicker rubber coating on the hand grip and rear side. Another feature that makes it attractive to long-time Nikon users is that it supports AF with Nikon’s older AF and AF-D lenses. This allows for virtually any Ai or later lens to be used with aperture priority or manual mode with almost no loss of functionality, apart from AF. Professional shooters will also be impressed with its speedy 50-millisecond shutter response and rapid 6 fps burst speed for up to 100 images.

The Nikon MB-D11 battery pack can power the D7000 camera using up to two Nikon EN-EL15 or six R6/AA alkaline, Ni-MH, lithium batteries (all sold separately) for extended shooting.The MB-D11 also features a shutter release button and command dials for vertical shooting.
