12x Optical Zoom and UA Lens Technology
The 12 x Optical Zoom is custom designed to fit the incredibly thin profile of the PowerShot ELPH 520 HS, with a lens range equivalent to 28-336mm in 35mm full frame. The wide range is ideal for capturing landscapes, group shots and cityscapes. The optical zoom insures that all images are crisp and clear at all settings, with virtually any subject within reach.

Canon HS SYSTEM
The Canon HS SYSTEM combines the 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 Image Processor to produces bright, clear photos in a wide range of shooting situations. Low light shots can be achieved with maximum highlight and shadow detail and minimal noise, up to an ISO 3200.

Intelligent IS
The PowerShot ELPH 520 HS features Intelligent IS, which analyzes camera movement and applies the best shake correction method for a specific shooting situation. For stills captures, the system automatically selects from Normal, Panning, Macro (Hybrid) and Tripod IS modes. With video, the automatic selections are Dynamic, Powered, Macro and Tripod IS modes. Each setting insures the steadiest possible image, so concentration can be on capturing the subject while the camera handles the rest.

HDTV Playback via HDMI and iFrame capability 
Enjoy and share the PowerShot ELPH 520 HS videos by simply connecting from the HDMI terminal directly to an  HDTV using an optional HDMI cable, sold separately. CEC-enabled HDTV options include playback control of still and video images through compatible remote control units.

For computer options, video capture using the Apple iFrame format speeds up importing and editing. File sizes are kept small for convenience during upload or sending video by e-mail.  The iFrame format enjoys native support in compatible Macs and is also compatible with Windows video applications without the need for file conversion.

PureColor System LCD
The PowerShot ELPH 520 HS features a 461,000 dot high resolution three inch PureColor LCD screen for easy viewing and framing of shots. The screen delivers exceptional clarity and  true-to-life color, with a wide view to see the image clearly at almost any angle, plus a scratchproof and dust repellent fluorine coating for durability.

Smart AUTO and Face ID
The expanded Smart AUTO makes it easier than ever to capture stills and video, through 58 predefined shooting situations. Simply frame the shot, and the camera does the rest by selecting the best scenario to insure the best results.  Difficult scenarios such as moving subjects, night scenes or backlighting are captured effortlessly with the PowerShot ELPH 520 HS
Face ID allows the camera to recognize and capture specific individuals, adjusting focus and exposure for up to twelve individual faces. Once a face is registered, the camera will adjust focus and exposure, even against a busy backround or in profile.  Images of specific individuals can also be searched by name.  For infants, the PowerShot ELPH 520 HS disables the flash and captures three successive images when a smile is detected.

High-Speed Burst Mode and Super Slow Motion
Capture professional style action shots with the PowerShot ELPH 520 HS with the High-Speed Burst mode that captures up to 6.8 frames per second. Fast captures are ideal for sporting events or when the subject is constantly moving. 

720p Movie Digest
The Movie Digest feature records four seconds before each still shot as a video, edits automatically within the camera and then produces a short movie in 720p. With the included ImageBrowser EX software, easily delete any unwanted scenes and then view the final result on an HDTV.

Smooth Skin and Soft Focus Scene Modes
The PowerShot ELPH 520 HS features scene modes that instantly mimic the effects of post-production editing and special filters.

Smooth Skin takes away dullness, fine wrinkles and harsh shadows, subtly smoothing and brightening skin for beautiful faces. . Smooth Skin Effect can be set to Low, Medium or High; Skin Tone Color can be turned off. The Lighter Skin Tone or Darker Skin Tone options are designed to counteract shadows and improve visibility.
Soft Focus creates a hazy ambiance that's perfect for nostalgic portraits, romantic shots, wedding photos and more. The mode can be set to Low, Medium or High depending on the effect desired.
