Hollywood, CA, July 9, 2012 – Calumet Photographic is proud to announce the opening of an
exhibit at their Hollywood retail location of work by Lee Varis, entitled The New Millennium
Tarot. Varis is a nationally recognized photo illustrator, photographer, author and educator in
digital imaging art. His unique style captures the idiosyncrasies of light, and has generated
some of Hollywood’s most creative movie posters and video box covers. His creative imaging
has been featured in National Geographic, PDN and Fortune magazines, as well as numerous
trade publications. Varis’ work will be on display at the Calumet retail store in Los Angeles from
July 5 through August 5.

In his artist statement, Varis explains that he conceived The New Millennium Tarot as a bridge
between the esoteric knowledge of past ages to the new Aquarian age of enlightenment we are
now entering. Using the computer as a tool to expand human awareness, he has re-imagined
the tarot for the modern, quantum-conscious, multimedia-inspired, cyber-culture of today.
Varis’ New Millennium Tarot work employs cutting edge, computer-imaging techniques, digital
photography, illustration and 3D rendering to create a repository of knowledge about the human
condition encoded in multilevel symbolic imagery. “As we translate more dimensions of reality
into binary code and the kaleidoscopic-knowledge space of the Internet, the need arises for new
maps to navigate the rapidly expanding pathways of the mind,” according to Varis. “The tarot
has always been a model of our internal representational matrix of reality. By updating this
model to incorporate new technologies The New Millennium Tarot aims to be the new map to
the territory of the new mind.”

There will be a reception for the exhibit on July 24, from 5 to 8:30 p.m, which will be open to the
public. The artist will give a talk about his work at 6:30 p.m. “This show is indicative of the depth
and breadth of photography exhibits that our gallery plans to present in the future, said
Calumet’s gallery manager Marie Mazur. “This is a unique opportunity to view and own images
that employ traditional photographic methods with extensive advances in digital imaging.”

regular store hours, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 on
