Chicago, IL, July 24, 2012 – Calumet Photographic is proud to announce that they will be hosting an exhibit of Clarissa Bonet’s “City Space” photographic project in their gallery located in their Chicago retail facility at 1111 N, Cherry Ave. Her work will be on display from August 1 through September 15, and there will be an artist reception on August 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. The gallery space is open to the public during regular store hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, 12 to 5 p.m.

Clarissa Bonet lives and works in Chicago. She received her M.F.A. in photography from Columbia College in 2012 and her B.S. in photography from the University of Central Florida. Her “City Space” project portrays mostly anonymous people going about their daily lives in the midst of their urban environment. These strange and mysterious images are filled with questions and no simple answers. “I am interested in the physical space of the city and its emotional and psychological impact on the body,” said Bonet. “They reconstruct mundane events in the city that I have personally experienced or witnessed in public.”

Bonet’s exhibit represents a new direction for the gallery space at Calumet’s Chicago retail location. “We are making a concerted effort in each of our 12 retail locations across the country to increase our engagement with the photo communities in which we serve image makers,” says Laura Dervin, Calumet’s Event Marketing Manager. “By presenting work by local photographers that we feel is exciting, fresh and creative, we hope to inspire our diverse range of customers, and give back to the photo community a sense of what we are all trying to accomplish through our images — self expression.”

The exhibit will consist of large-format prints from Bonet’s project, which were created as part of her M.F.A. thesis at Columbia College. Bonet will attend an artist reception on August 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. and refreshments will be served.
